Pocket Full of Horses

These paintings are a series I call, Pocket Full of Horses. Now, don’t get me wrong…I don’t think they look like pockets or horses, lol! But, it’s a feeling I get….they kind of make me think of horses running through a field of grass and flowers, jumping and playing. They also make me think of my friend, Tessa. Tessa is 12, and just moved to Mexico, from Ontario, Canada and has fallen in love with horses! I picture Tess and Poncho (her new Mexican horse), running through small town Mexico in the scorching afternoon sun – dirty bare feet, bareback, white horse, with his mane and tail flying behind them, kicking up dust and beach sand. Tessa, with her tanned, smooth skin and long, brown, curly hair flying in the tropical breeze as she secretly, or not so secretly (small towns have eyes everywhere!), breaks all the rules set out for her by her parents. Pure joy and wild abandon! A horse and a girl, plunging into the beautiful blue ocean , splashing – laughing – both of them catching their breath as the cool ocean waves hit their hot, sticky skin. Can you feel it?! Can you picture it?! Well, that is the feeling I get from these paintings. Tessa and Poncho, living and loving life. Breaking all the rules (I love a rule breaker!), even though she knows there will be consequences later.
Throw caution to the wind!…Break the rules!….Let your hair fly!
Because life is just so much more delicious that way!
